HOISINGTON — Gladys Voos, 86, died June 6, at Kansas Medical Center, Andover. Born May 4, 1927 in Hoisington, she was the daughter of Luther and Mary Elizabeth (Phillips) Marcum. On Feb. 12, 1948 she married Melvin Bates in Hoisington. He died on Oct. 15, 1958. On April 30, 1960 she married Ray Hartman in Hoisington. They later divorced. On Oct. 10, 1970 she married Melvin Voos in Hoisington. He died on Dec. 28, 1991. Gladys retired from being a care giver at the age of 84.
Gladys was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hoisington. She loved to play cards, cook, garden and study her bible. She was baptized into her faith on April 13, 1947.
She is survived by a daughter, Tammy Nuss (Keith), of Russell; 2 daughters-in-law Donna Bates, of Hoisington and Reatha Michealis of Great Bend; two step-sons Gregg Voos (Diann), of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Monte Voos (Kathy), of Jacksonville Fla.; a step-daughter Missy Hightower (Jim), of Wichita; one brother, Chuck Marcum of Osawatomie; 14 grandchildren Lee Bates, Noel Bates, Ryan Bates, Brenda Bates, Adam Bates, DJ Bates, Crystal Bates, Jacqueline Bates, Neal Bates, Jordan Bates, Jacob Nuss, Aaron Nuss, Jared Nuss and Stephanie Nuss; 10 step-grandchildren, Aaron Voos, Andrew Voos, Mikaela Voos, Myra Voos, Joanna Voos, Matthew Clair, Charley Clair, Ben Clair, Jacob Clair and Julia Clair; 17 great-grandchildren; and 17 step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands; three sons Allan Bates, Stanley Bates, and Gary Bates; five brothers, LeRoy Holman, Eugene Marcum, Herbert Marcum, John Marcum and Bob Marcum; four sisters Angeline
Sohm, Ruth Ann Page, Katherine Mullis and Louise Lehning; and one step-grandson William Clair.
Celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Hoisington with the Rev. Kris Brinlee officiating. As per her request, her body was donated to Science Care for medical studies, cremation has taken place. Burial will be at the Golden Belt Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the church or the Hoisington Food Bank, in care of the First United Methodist Church, 467 W. Third Street Hoisington, Ks. 67544.
