Harold E. Johnson, 87, died Jan. 17, 2013 at Hospice House of Reno County, Hutchinson. He was born Jan. 5, 1926 at Holdenville, Okla., the son of  Henry and Alma (Ellis) Johnson.
He married Elaine Lane Dec. 21, 1947 at Alva, Okla.  She died Jan. 12, 2012. He was an industrial arts teacher in the Macksville Unified School District for thirty-seven years. After retirement, he worked part-time for Dillons. Mr. Johnson was a Great Bend resident since 1999 coming from Macksville.
He was a United States Marine Corps veteran, serving during World War II.  He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Great Bend.
He is survived by one daughter: Jane Howard of Great Bend; five sisters: Vera Shaull of Huron, S.D., Mary Smith of Oklahoma City, Okla., Lavelle Powers of Lubbock, Texas, Toni Forgash of Tahachiti, Calif.; and Charlene West of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one brother: Clyde Johnson of Weatherford, Okla.; one grandson: Bart Howard and his wife Brooke of Las Vegas, Nev.; and one great-granddaughter: Hadley Howard. He was preceded in death by son, James Edward “Jim” Johnson; three sisters, Patti Vaughn, Jonnie Belle Thornhill, and Jewell Johnson; and one grandson, Mason Howard.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 21 at Bryant Funeral Home with The Reverend Hal Staats, officiating. Private family inurnment will be at Great Bend Cemetery North, Great Bend. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 21 at Bryant Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice House of Reno County, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
