Harry L. (Roy) Weil

ST. JOHN — Harry L. (Roy) Weil was born Nov. 1, 1919, at his family home in St. John. He died July 31 at Lakewood Senior Living, Pratt. He was a lifelong resident of St. John, living in the home of his birth. He graduated from St. John High School and attended Kansas State University. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943-1946 where he was a nose gunner on B-17s. Roy was a businessman, having operated the Independent Hardware store, later Weil Hardware store, from 1946-1959. He worked for Massey Plumbing from 1959 until his retirement in 1984. Roy was known for sharpening all manner of saws, saw blades, chain saw blades, knives and scissors. 
He was preceded in death by Opal Campbell Weil, his wife of 65 years. He is survived by three sons, Jerry and his wife Kim, Liberty, Mo., John and his wife Mary Jane, Flower Mound, Texas, and Jeffrey of Great Bend; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Minnis Chapel, St. John, with George Shelton presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John. Memorials can be made to the Leisure Homestead Alzheimer Unit St. John, in care of Minnis Chapel.
