Helen M. Zorn 1921 - 2016

CLAFLIN — Helen M. Zorn, 95, died Sept. 19, 2016, at Presbyterian Manor in Emporia. Born Aug. 2, 1921, in Redwing she was the daughter of Frank and Anna (Demel) Koester. In 1940, she graduated from Odin High School. On March 4, 1943, she married Frank F. Zorn, at San Carlos Catholic Church, Monterey, Calif. He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 2000. A longtime resident of Claflin moving to Emporia in 2013, she was a homemaker and also worked for EL-KAN retiring in 1977.
Mrs. Zorn was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Claflin, where she was also a member of the Altar Society and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She helped to organize Birthday Coffee in Claflin and continued that tradition when moving to the Presbyterian Manor in Emporia.
Survivors include three children, Thomas Zorn and wife Alice of Herndon, Va., Susan Cates and husband Steven of Emporia, and Michael Zorn and wife Mary of Round Rock, Texas; a son-in-law, Harold Schremmer and wife Diana of Prosper, Texas; two sisters, Mary Haberman and Rose Murphy, both of Great Bend; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Donald and Gary Zorn; a daughter, Patricia Schremmer; two brothers, Bill and Joseph Koester; and three sisters, Ann Hickey, Augustina Axman, and Leona McCurry.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Claflin celebrated by Father Terrance Klein. Burial will follow in Claflin Cemetery. Vigil with Altar Society Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may call from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Presbyterian Manor of Emporia in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.nicholsonrickefh.net
