Herb 'Herbo' Freidenberger 1919-2012

OVERLAND PARK — Herb “Herbo” Freidenberger, 92, formerly of Hutchinson and Dunedin, Fla., passed away on Jan. 31, 2012 in Overland Park. Born on July 3, 1919, in Otis, he was the son of Sophie (Kindsvater) and George Freidenberger. On June 18, 1939, he married Marguerite Mendenhall in Hutchinson. She died Feb. 19, 2005. Herb retired in 1981, after a 43-year career from the Dillon Companies. After retiring to Florida, Herb attended Clown School and dedicated the next 25 years to making people laugh and smile as “Herbo” the Clown.
He and his wife were longtime members of the Emanuel Lutheran Church and he was instrumental in the construction of the current church on East 30th Street, which was built in 1963.
Survivors include, three daughters, Dee Ann (Jack) Sheldon, Holton; Suzanne Paschall, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; and Melinda (Tom) Cook, Overland Park; a son, Ron (Sheila) Freidenberger, Rogers, Ark.; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a great great-grandchild; two brothers, Alex (Alberta) and Richard (Aleda) Freidenberger; and two sisters, Helen Lorenz and Ruth (Marion) Ward. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marguerite, in February 2005; a son, Danny, in January 1968; a brother, George; and three sisters, Esther, Elma and Alice.
Funeral services were held on Feb. 3, in Overland Park. A memorial service for Herb will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 140 E. 30th in Hutchinson, with Pastor Phil Vickers officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dillon Nature Center or Emanuel Lutheran Church, in care of the funeral home.
