Herman Boyd 'Sonny' Crockett 1940-2014

Herman Boyd “Sonny” Crockett was born to Herman Delbert and Lois Maurice (King) Crockett in Morton, Texas on Dec. 15, 1940.  He died on Monday, Sept. 8, in Woodward, Okla.
At age nine, Sonny and his family moved to Ellinwood where Herman attended Ellinwood schools. From 1961-1966, Herman served in the U.S. Navy on the Carrier, USS Midway seeing duty off Vietnam. After being Honorably Discharged, he returned home and went to work for Pepsi before entering the oilfield. While working at Pepsi, Herman met and married Judi Poland on Feb. 18, 1968. In 1969, the family moved to Woodward, Okla. where Herman worked as a salesman in the oilfield. In 1976, the family moved to Canadian, Texas, living there for the next 11 years before returning to Woodward where they still reside.  
Herman was a member of the Woodward Elks Lodge 1355 and the Woodward Moose Lodge.
His favorite things were family gatherings, being with his buddies throughout Oklahoma and Texas, drinking coffee and exchanging tall tales about their fishing exploits. Herman also enjoyed hunting, and in the last few years fishing and visiting the casinos.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, Judi of the home; four children, Darci Lynn Douglass and husband Terry of Perry, Okla.; Daryn Boyd Crockett of Norman, Okla.; Devlyn Arthur Crockett of Austin, Texas; Daci Sarita Crockett and Alan Fletcher of Woodward, Okla.; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Pat Bell and husband Keith of Brownsville, Texas; Twilla Birzer and husband Melvin of Great Bend; one brother, Randy Wayne Crockett of Sharon; aunt, Lou Bridges of Abilene, Texas; cousin, Linda Sheppard of St. Mary’s, Ga.; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11 at the First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Donnetta Hunter officiating. The family will receive friends at the Billings Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Graceland Cemetery in Lyons with the Rev. Ron DeVore officiating. A receiving of friends will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday at the Birzer Funeral Home in Lyons. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Woodward High School Band, or St. Jude’s Children Hospital in care of the Billings Funeral Home of Woodward, Okla. or the Birzer Funeral Home of Lyons.
