ST. JOHN — Hether Rene Devine, 42, passed away March 16, 2022, at the University of Kansas Health System – Great Bend. She was born to Norman Bentley and Charlotte Hess on July 5, 1979, in Pampa, Texas. She married Thomas Lee Devine on May 31, 2008 in Great Bend.
A longtime Barton County resident, Hether received her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education. She was passionate about educating students. She most recently taught at Ellinwood Grade School and previously had taught at Riley Elementary in Great Bend and Liberal Grade School. Hether attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Seward and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend. She liked to swim, exercise and was an avid reader. Hether especially loved going on ag tours with Lee and spending time with her children.
Survivors include: her husband Lee Devine and her children, Thomas “Ted” Edwin and Ella Marie of the home; her birth father, Norman Bentley of Brady, Texas; her loving father, Leroy “Tex” Gross of Beaver, Okla.; a sister, Toni Robertson and husband Bryan of Ohio; father-in-law, George Devine and brother-in-law, Christopher Devine, both of Great Bend. She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlie Gross; her brother, Randy Bentley; and her mother-in-law, Carolyn Devine.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Bryant Funeral Home, with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 23. 2022, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Seward. Interment will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to the Devine Children’s Education Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
