Hurmely Yvonne Miss Lee Elson 1937 - 2018

Hurmely Yvonne “Miss Lee” Elson, 80, passed away April 6, 2018, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend, Kan. She was born Oct. 19, 1937, to Fred Frederick William Ludwig and Elizabeth (Goble) Peters. Hurmely married Richard G. Elson Aug. 31, 1957, at Oberlin. He preceded her in death on Feb. 2, 2015. A long-time Great Bend resident, Hurmely was a homemaker, LPN, preschool teacher and a Walmart greeter. She worked at numerous area nursing homes, Berean Christian Preschool and the Great Bend Children’s Learning Center.
Survivors include one son, Richard Eugene Elson and wife Nina Mae of Great Bend; three daughters, Mary Elizabeth Anderson and husband Ronald Lee of North Glenn, Colo., Nancy Jo Pennington and husband Carlos of Garden City, and Bobbie Jo Elson of Great Bend; one sister, Geraldine Kirby and husband Jim of McCune; 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Orville Taylor; one daughter, Betty Lou Barnett; one brother, Fred Peters; two sisters, Minnie Wade and Josephine Thompson; and grandson Preston Allen Barnett.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Community Christian Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Jon Hembree presiding. There will be no viewing, as cremation has taken place. Inurnment will be at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery, WaKeeney, at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Hurmely Elson Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
