SUN CITY, Ariz. — Iona Martin, 89, died Aug. 23 in Sun City, Ariz. She was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Rosston, Okla., to John and Bertha Kincade. She married Russell Martin on July 7, 1936. He preceded her in death in March of 1996. After retirement from the Great Bend register of deeds office, she and Russ moved to Lindale, Texas. After Russ’s death she moved to Sun City to be close to her sisters. She is survived by her children, Donald Martin of Glendale, Ariz., Jerald Martin of Tyler, Texas, Sandra Persels of Tucson, Ariz., and John (Ann) Martin of Overland Park; two sisters, Louise VanSpyker of Sun City, Ariz., and Alice Christy of Tulare, Calif.; four grandchildren, Amy (Jack) Warshaw of Los Angeles, Jeff (Brigitte) Persels of Columbia, S.C., Christopher (Lacey) Martin of Overland Park and Anne Marie (Mark) Wertin of Lawrence, and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Holy Spirit Church in Overland Park at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Graveside services will be held at Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery in Lindale, Texas, on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Baptist Village of Youngtown, Ariz. Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home of Lindale, Texas, is in charge of arrangements.
