EL DORADO — Irvin P. Burhenn, 85, El Dorado, died Jan. 4 at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Born on Aug. 3, 1927 in Barton County, he was the son of Paul and Bertha (Langher) Burhenn. In 1945 he graduated from Great Bend High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War. On Jan. 30, 1952 he married Shirley Sisson at the Christian Church in Alva, Okla. They moved to El Dorado in 1959. He worked for Haliburton as a cement operator for 29 years. He was an avid golfer, played bridge and pitch with a group at the American Legion and enjoyed gardening during good weather.
Mr. Burhenn was Past Commander of the American Legion and was a Deacon at the Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife Shirley; two sons Steve Burhenn and wife Adel, of Great Bend, and Stewart Burhenn of El Dorado; a daughter, Kala Ann and her husband and Jerry Bayes, of Amelia, Ohio; a sister Flossy Dewy of Great Bend; a brother Virgil Burhenn of Great Bend; six grandchildren Jason and Brandie Burhenn, Lacey and John Haguawhont, Seth Burhenn, and Zachary Burhenn; and a great-grandchild Ian Haguawhont. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the First Christian Church. Cremation will be held. Memorials to his memory for the First Christian Church may be given to the church or to the funeral home. Condolences to his memory may be sent to www.carlsoncolonial.com.
