Ivan Stanley Freeman 1919-2014

Ivan “Stanley” Freeman, 94, died Aug. 9 at Great Bend Health And Rehabilitation Center.  Born Dec. 26, 1919, at Coats, he was the son of Ivan A. and Gertrude M. (Stimits) Freeman. He married Betty B. Eastes Jan. 4, 1948, at Pratt. She died August 31, 2012.
Spending most of his life in the oil industry, Mr. Freeman began work for Lyons Oil Company in Pratt. A new opportunity with Tomlinson Oil Company moved the family to Great Bend in 1960. He was production superintendent for the state of Kansas until his retirement in 1991. After a few months of retirement, Stan returned to work as production superintendent for J. A. Allison Oil, retiring again in 2001.
Mr. Freeman was a Great Bend resident since 1960 coming from Pratt. He was a United States Navy airplane mechanic during World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Great Bend; and Kilwinning A.F. & A.M. Lodge No. 265, Pratt. He was honored as a pioneer of the oil industry by the Kansas Oil and Gas Museum, Great Bend. He enjoyed his morning coffee group and spending the afternoon with the great-grandchildren, and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include a daughter, Shelly Shelton and husband Doug, Great Bend; two grandchildren, Jason Shelton and his wife Jenny, Wilson; and Tasha DiLoreto and her husband Dan, Wichita; seven great-grandchildren, Jarod Shelton, Jena Shelton, Trista Shelton, Austin McGinnes, McKenzie King, Lexus King, and Danny DiLoreto.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Carson.
Graveside Service is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Great Bend Cemetery with The Reverend John Grummon officiating. Interment will be at Great Bend Cemetery with military rites by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 9 p.m., Tuesday and 9 a.m. to service time, Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
