SEWARD — James G. “Jimmy” Roat, 50, died Dec. 17, 2011 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.
He was born Nov. 13, 1961 at Phillipsburg, the son of James Andrew and Doris Verlea (Lemon) Roat.
He attended Great Bend High School and graduated from Salina Vocational Technical College specializing in auto body. He was employed for many years by R and S Repair and Transportation and recently worked for Central States Thermo King of Dodge City as a refrigeration technician. He married Karla Weatherman on Jan. 21, 1981, and were later divorced.
He spent many years working on diesel refrigeration units and was a specialist in that field. He was an avid car and antique collector.
Survivors include his mother, Doris Verlea Roat, rural Seward; a son, Jesse Roat and companion Brittany Van Scyoc, Hoisington; a daughter: Kayla Roat, Hoisington; a sister, Diane Roat, rural Seward; a brother, David Roat and wife Brenda, Hoisington; a grandchild, Preston Roat; numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. He was also survived by his beloved dogs, Thunder and Dottie.
He was preceded in death by a son, Travis Roat; his father, James A. Roat; a brother, Darin Roat; and grandparents, Mervin and Fern Lemon and Gilford and Florence Roat.
A funeral service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20 at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend with Pastor Mike Joiner officiating. Interment will be at the Hoisington Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 9 p.m., Monday, Dec. 19 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m.
