James L. "Jim" Morton, 64, died Nov. 3 at his home in Great Bend. Born May 4, 1946, in Great Bend, he was the son of Loyd and Violet (Smith) Morton. On Aug. 28, 1970, he married Karen Collier in Great Bend. A resident of Great Bend since 1973, coming from Seward, he was a district manager for Halliburton for 25 years and production superintendent for Hartman Oil Company until his retirement in 2009.

Mr. Morton was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Seward. He was an active member of API, SPE and the Fort Hays State University Alumni Association. He loved fishing and NASCAR.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Morton, of the home; mother, Violet Morton of Ellinwood; a son, J. Bryon Morton and wife Jan of Great Bend; a daughter, Tami Morton of Denver, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Debi Vonlintel and husband Larry of Hoxie; a sister, Mary Devlin and husband Denny of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Loyd Morton.

Parish and Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Seward with Father Rene Guesnier officiating. Burial will be at the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Seward. The register book will be available from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to ALS Association or Eldercare, all in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
