VICTORIA — James R. "Jim" Kuhn, 63, died Thursday, March 24, at St. John’s Health Care Center in his hometown of Victoria.

He was born April 1, 1947, in Hays, to Richard B. and Marian (Syner) Kuhn. He grew up in Victoria and attended school until his junior year at Victoria High School. He played trombone in the school band, He sang in glee club and played high school basketball.

In February 1964, at the age of 16, Jim was involved in a severe auto accident. He resided in Russell for many years and moved to St. John’s Nursing home in 2005.

He was a true University of Kansas basketball fan and always talked about "Wilt the Stilt" Chamberlain. He lived every day for his music, his singing, and seeing his mother and all the goodies she baked for him.

Survivors include his sister, Lois Dinkel and husband, Jerry, Great Bend; three nieces, Rachel Purdy and husband, Jason, Wichita; Malia Bigham and husband, Ben, Newton; Ann Bell and husband, Scot, Liberty, Mo.; three great-nieces, Morgan Kay Purdy, Tess Anna Bigham, Lily Grace Bell; three great-nephews, Joshua Purdy, Jack Bigham, Jacob Bell; one uncle, James Syner, Littleton, Colo.; two aunts, Isabelle Kasick, Kansas City; and Tina Kuhn, Victoria.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 29 at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria.

Burial will be in St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria.
