LARNED — Janet Y. Murphy, 66, died Dec. 5 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. Born Nov. 24, 1947, in Compton, Calif., she was the daughter of Hubert and Lu Disney Hanes. On Sept. 9, 1967, she married Robert R. Smyth at Winfield. He died Dec. 5, 1992.  On Nov. 27, 1993, she married Melvin M. Murphy Jr. at Larned. He survives. A longtime area resident, she was a program technician at the FSA office in Larned.
Mrs. Murphy was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Red Hat Society, all of Larned.
Survivors include her father Hubert Hanes; three sons, Russell Smyth and Shawn Smyth, both of Larned, and Kris Smyth of Scott City; three daughters, Marie Schmidtberger of Victoria, Cathy DeMond of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Melissa Hoogendoorn of Lantana, Texas; two brothers, Mike Hanes of Winfield and Richard Hanes of Eudora; a sister, Susan Craig of Anderson, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Sam Hanes.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Larned with the Rev. Bethann Black presiding. Burial will be at the Larned Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and from 1 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, with the family present from 2 to 4 p.m., all at the Beckwith Mortuary in Larned. Memorials may be given to the Pawnee Valley Community Foundation or the Central Care Cancer Center of Great Bend, both in care of the funeral home.
