Janice Waknitz died Sept. 26 at Holmes Regional Medical Center, Melbourne, Fla. She was born April 23, 1942, at Green Forest, Ark., the daughter of John Grady and Louella  (Wells) Howerton. She married Charles Waknitz Dec. 27, 1966, at Wichita. A retired 30-year school teacher, she had been a Great Bend resident since 1976, coming from Kinsley.
Mrs. Waknitz was a member of Foundry Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending her time scrapbooking pictures of her grandchildren, planting flowers, and gardening. She especially loved her Lord.


Survivors include her husband Charles, of the home; one son, Jeff Waknitz and wife Michelle of Surprise, Ariz.; three daughters, Julie Cassity and husband Craig of Wichita, Lindsey Fuzzell of Lenexa, and Sara Waknitz of Wichita; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by one brother, Billy Joe Howerton.
Memorial funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Foundry Methodist Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Dr. Kevin Baxter and the Rev. Janna Baxter officiating.  Inurnment will be at Old Mission Cemetery, Wichita, at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Foundry Methodist Church or Great Bend Camp of Gideons Auxiliary, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
