HUTCHINSON — Janis Lin Bair, 68, of Hutchinson, died June 26, at Hospice House. Born Sept. 7, 1942, in Hannibal, Mo., she was the daughter of James Derrill and Helen Victoria Linsner Pratt. She was a 1960 graduate of Wichita North High School, a 1964 graduate of Pittsburg State University, with a B.A. in Education, and she received her M.A. in Administration from Wichita State University.
On July 3, 1965, she married John Lynn Bair in Wichita. He survives. A long time educator, she was a retired principal for Faris Elementary School. During her teaching career, Janis was a 6th grade teacher in Denver, Colo., substituted at Morgan Elementary in Hutchinson, was a 6th grade teacher in Wichita, a gifted educational instructor with RCEC, serving in Turon, Langdon, and Sylvia, and eventually going to work for USD #308. She was a former principal for Wiley Elementary School. After her retirement, Janis enjoyed selling pasta at the Reno County Farmer’s Market. She was a beautiful wife, wonderful mother, in addition to her passion for educating children.
Mrs. Bair was a co-founder of the La Leche League and instrumental in starting D.A.D.S. (Dad’s Attending Delivery), both in Wichita. She was a board member of the Reno County Farmer’s Market and a member of numerous educational associations. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Other survivors include: three sons, Jed and wife Paula of Prairie Village, Justin of Shawnee, and Jonathan and fiancée Christine Maynes of Lancaster, Pa.; two daughters, Jessica Campbell and husband Mark of Alexandria, Egypt, and Sheri Youngberg of Glen Cove, N.Y.; three brothers, Jim Pratt and wife Elsa of New Orleans, La., and twins, Roger and Ronnie Pratt both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and three grandchildren, Quincy Bair, Henry Bair, and Isaac Alexander Campbell.
Parish rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with Mass to follow at 11 a.m. with Father Joseph Eckberg presiding. Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Appleton Township Cemetery, Minneola. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory in Hutchinson.
