ELLINWOOD — Jean Peter, 85, passed away April 17, 2013 at the Sterling Presbyterian Manor in Sterling.
She was born Dec. 17, 1927 at Gridley, the daughter of Robert Reed and Phrona Peggy Kash.
A longtime Ellinwood resident, she graduated from Ellinwood High School and the Salt City Business College. On Aug. 28, 1949, she married Lorin L. Peter. He died on Nov. 12, 2011.  She was a farm wife and co-owner of Raymond Sand & Gravel. She served as secretary of the Ellinwood Airport and Ellinwood District Hospital.
Mrs. Peter was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ellinwood and the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries. She served as president of the Women’s Fellowship, Kansas-Oklahoma Conference Delegate.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Peter and wife Julie, and Rollie Wayne Peter and wife Sue Ann, both of Ellinwood, and Brad Peter and wife Vickie, of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Marvin and James; and a sister, Wilma Lewis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Ellinwood with the Rev. Kasey Crosby officiating. Burial will be at the Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday, with family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel United Church of Christ and Legion Scholarship Fund.
