HOISINGTON — Jean Polzin, 81, died Aug. 1, 2011, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center, Great Bend. She was born Dec. 27, 1929, at Hoisington the daughter of Viola Depiesse. Jean was 6 years old when her mother passed, and she was then raised by her grandparents, Jac and Mary Meyeres Depiesse. She married Rom Polzin on April 16, 1952, at Milwaukee, Wis. He died Aug. 5, 1968. She was Postmaster in Beaver for 20 years, retiring in 1991, and had been a Hoisington resident since 1998, coming from Beaver.
Mrs. Polzin was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society, Hoisington. She was an avid fisherman and card player.
Survivors include an aunt, Elsie Hinkley and husband Vern of El Cajon, Calif.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her companion Wilfred (Tuff) Polzin, and by several aunts and uncles.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, with Father Ultan Murphy, celebrant. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Beaver. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Tuesday, with a rosary at 7 p.m., and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday, all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
