Jean Strobl, 79, died at Wesley Hospital, Wichita, KS, on August 19, 2021. She was born on June 5, 1942, in Chicago, IL. Her parents were Harvey and Leone Brown.
Jean was a member of Tri-Circle Unit and St. Joseph’s Altar Society. She was born in the south side of Chicago, moved to Phoenix, Arizona, and met Mike Strobl, got married in 1963, and moved to Ellinwood. They started a family and business. Mike was co-owner of Strobl-Yarmer Construction. Jean earned an associate degree in nursing from Barton County Community College and worked at Central Kansas Medical Center and State of Kansas home health.
Survivors are son Scott (Maureen) Strobl, Chicago, IL; daughters, Susan (Brian) Burrus, Wichita, KS, Laura (Steve) Schaffer, Denver, CO; sister Barbara (Brown) Wilky, Phoenix, AZ, grandchildren, Ben (Monica), Mark and Patrick Burrus, John (Alexa) Schaffer, Kate (Matt) Kinnison, and Michael Strobl. Great-grandchildren Blair and Margot Burrus.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ellinwood with burial to follow at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Visitation is Monday, August 23, from 1-7 p.m. at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. The Altar Society will pray a rosary at 3 p.m. on Monday and there will be a 7 p.m. vigil and rosary service also at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.
