Jerry L. Morgenstern 1945 - 2020

HOISINGTON — Jerry L. Morgenstern, 74, died January 15, 2020, at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. Born January 18, 1945, in Wichita, he was the son of LeRoy and Loretta (Demel) Morgenstern. On January 28, 1967, he married Lou Ann Lamatsch in Odin. Jerry graduated from Hoisington High School and Kansas State University.  After graduation, he taught vocational agriculture in Ellis and Great Bend before moving to Hoisington to farm full time as a fourth generation farmer. He continued teaching as a part-time welding instructor at Barton Community College for over 30 years.  

He was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus member for over 50 years and served in positions at the Local, District and State level.  He served on the Barton County Farm Bureau Board of Directors, Barton County Farm Service Agency Board member, Barton County Ag. Extension Council and many Co-Op Boards. He was a lifetime FFA member and promoted agriculture through his work with the County Extension Hazardous Occupations Training Class, National Ag Day and assisted with the “Ag in the Classroom Presentations.”  

He is survived by his wife Lou Ann of the home; two sons, John Morgenstern and wife Kelly of Olathe, Jim Morgenstern and wife Shelly of Russell; two daughters, Brenda Kaiser and husband Leonard of Great Bend, Ann Buesing and husband Ryan of Sioux Falls, SD; 12 grandchildren, Morgan Kaiser, Molly Kaiser, Katelyn Morgenstern, Jace Morgenstern, Bryn Morgenstern, Rylie Morgenstern, Valarie Morgenstern, Emma Morgenstern, Elizabeth Morgenstern, Olivia Morgenstern, Elijah Buesing, and Jonah Buesing. Brothers, Robert Morgenstern and wife Jan, Donald Morgenstern; Sisters, Joan Rziha and husband Leonard, Pam Willis and husband Greg, all of Hoisington and Roxanne Bell and husband Tom of Salina, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Vigil and Rosary will begin at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2020, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Don Bedore. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Hoisington.
