Joan Luella Brown

RAYMOND — Joan Luella Brown, 66, passed away April 11, 2020, at Promise Skilled Nursing, Overland Park. She was born on September 20, 1953, at Great Bend, to Malvern & Evelyn (Burhenn) Schartz. She married William Gary Brown on December 27, 1971, at Ellinwood. He survives. 


A Raymond resident for 41 years, Joan was a medical aide at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood. Joan enjoyed decorating, shopping and gardening, but especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.  

Survivors include, her husband, William Gary Brown of the home; a son, Travis Brown and wife Heather of Slovan, Pa.; a daughter, Jennifer Mantz and husband Dean of Little River; two sisters, Darlene Jenisch and Karen Jameson; and three grandchildren, Raegan Mantz, Dalton Mantz, and Creighton Mantz. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Alvin Schartz; and a sister, Connie Grossardt. 


Visitation will be held from Noon to 9 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A private family funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2020, with Father Terrance Klein presiding. Due to COVID 19, public live stream will be available at www.bryantfh.net under Joan’s obituary. Interment will be in the Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery, Ellinwood.
