John lived in the Pratt and Sawyer area in his younger years and graduated from Moscow High School and Fort Hays State University. He served seven years in the Army Reserves out of Hays.
His career was the oil business. Starting with Welex in the early 70s and then Great Guns until 1989, John and Glenn Schmeidler then started Log Tech of Kansas. In 1991, John took Log Tech of Kansas on his own and, together with Steve Giebler, built the successful company that operates today. John was very proud of Log Tech of Kansas and the men who worked for him. You would often see John at the Great Bend Sears Store helping his wife, during the time they owned the store, from 1999 to 2006.
John enjoyed living his life to the fullest and living it the way he wanted. John loved golf, his Honda trike, KU and WSU basketball, playing cards and most of all, his wife Katie.
John is survived by his wife Katie; daughter Jacque and fiancé Joe Wittmann; stepson Roger Nelson and wife Melissa; nephew Craig “McGruder” McKim and his wife Daniella; niece Susan Clauser and husband Chad; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
