LARNED — John Edward Haremza, 80, died Nov. 11, 2013, at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.
He was born March 27, 1933 in Colby, the son of Benjamin C. and Velma Marie Makings Haremza.  
Ed was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Military Academy in Hays.  He joined the Air Force in 1953. On Dec. 29, 1953, he married Patricia Hall of Larned. While in the Air Force, Ed and his family, were stationed at Wichita Falls, Texas, where he completed prop-engine repair training and also completed jet-engine repair training in Amarillo, Texas. His final station was at the Air Training Command Base in Greenville, Miss. Ed attained the rank of Master Sergeant in the Air Force.  
In 1957, Ed completed his military service and moved to Larned where he began working with his father-in-law and brother-in-law at the Triple-H. In 1972, he went to work for Pawnee Beef Builders until his retirement in 1994. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a member of the American Legion, both of Larned. She survives. He also worked for Morrill Hay while retired. Ed spent his retirement years attending family reunions, watching grandchildren’s sporting events and activities and enjoyed coffee time with his buddies.
On Nov. 30, 1981, he married Ann Spacil Cook at Larned. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Johnny and wife Jill, Garden City; and Jay Dee and wife Whitney, Larned; four daughters, Brenda Haremza, Sheli Haremza, Jill Robinson, all of Larned; and Amy Beth Haremza, Wichita; a brother, Jim and wife Shirley Haremza, Grand Junction, Colo.; a sister, Hulda Mae Gothorp, Curtis, Neb.; nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and a host of nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sheri; two sisters, Betty Williams and Juday Huelsmann; five brothers, Robert, Bernard, David, Raymond and Lester, a step-son, Shawn Cook, a great niece and a great nephew.  
Funeral Mass is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Larned, with Father Warren Stecklein presiding.  The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at the Larned Knight of Columbus Hall. Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Morell Funeral Home, Larned. Burial will be in Larned Cemetery with Military Honors.
