John Edward Sandberg 1956 - 2011

GREAT BEND — John Edward Sandberg was born Nov. 28, 1956 and he left this world on Nov. 13, 2011.
John was one of God’s angels here on earth. He was a great husband, father and grandfather. John shared his passion for life with everybody he knew, most especially his loving wife Laura Houchin Sandberg. They married June 28, 1980 in Great Bend. Together they had four children. He loved every child he knew including his six granddaughters and one grandson.
One of John’s most prized possessions was his Santa suit that he donned every Christmas for his grandkids and any daycare or children’s group that needed a cheap Santa. He never charged a dime. John never met a stranger. An unknown person to him was just an opportunity to make a new friend. A Great Bend resident for 35 years, coming from Kansas City, he worked for Great Bend Packing as an inventory clerk and also managed the Great Bend pool for 11 years.
Mr. Sandberg served in the Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Sandberg, of the home; three sons, Shane Sandberg and wife Mary, Ellinwood; Brandon Sandberg and wife Lisa, Larned; and John Shiloh Sandberg and wife Tasha, Olmitz; a daughter Amanda Liston, Hoisington; three sisters, Pam Sandberg, Holyrood; Michele Sandberg, Omaha, Neb.; and Mary Jo Mull, Great Bend; a brother Jason Sandberg, Norton; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Eddy Roth Sandberg Levings, and his father Roy John Sandberg.
A memorial service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday at Living Joy Community Church, 354 W. 1st, in Hoisington with Deacon Tonya Andrews officiating. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Memorials are suggested to the Great Bend Recreation Commission in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
