ELLINWOOD — John O. Glenn, 83, died Oct. 18, 2022, at his daughter’s home in Macksville, Kan. He was born Aug. 9, 1939, in Mounds, Okla., the son of John Otis Glenn, Sr. and Opal Louise (O’Dell) Glenn.
On Aug. 11, 1958, he married Carol “LaVon” Smith. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2019.
John moved from Oklahoma to Kansas in 1951 and has been a longtime resident of Ellinwood. He worked in the oil field his whole life starting in 1951 for Buckin Smith Drilling, then Sante Fe Pipe Supply, and then 10 years with Pipe Pullers Inc. The last 28 years he worked for Kaiser Francis Oil Company retiring in 1995. He then worked independently as a pumper until December of 2021.
He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Ellinwood.
He is survived by four children, Kirk Glenn and wife Debbie of Sterling, Rena Mooney and husband Mike of Bushton, Ruth Kaiser and husband Jon of Ellinwood, and Crystal Glenn and husband Kris Weathers of Macksville; a sister, Marceline Johnson of Oklahoma City; and 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, LaVon Glenn; daughter, Michelle Bigger; a son, John O. Glenn, III; brothers, Ralph and George Glenn; and sister, Betty Bird.
