LARNED — John Roy Van Cleave 99, died Nov. 6 at the Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned. He was born Aug. 11, 1912, in Toronto, the son of Roy C. and Nellie Stump Van Cleave. On July 15, 1934, he married Gertrude Unruh at Larned. She died Feb. 14, 2005. A longtime area resident, he was a farmer.
Mr. Van Cleave was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Larned, the W.P.A., the Master of Grange and the Fort Larned Lions Club president.
Survivors include a son Ron, Larned; a daughter Janet Guthrie, Wichita; a sister Arlene Bigham, Wichita; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Bill Fitzgerrel presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Fort Larned Lions Club or the United Methodist church, Larned, both in care of the mortuary.
