Johnny H. Carson, age 90 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday morning, April 20, 2022 at Ellinwood District Hospital in Ellinwood, Kansas. Johnny was born on June 1, 1931 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Edwin L. and Susie (Hamilton) Carson. He was united in marriage to Betty Brite on November 1, 1952 at Fayetteville, Arkansas. The couple had been residents of Great Bend since 1966. Johnny worked as a Derrick Man in the oilfield for 13 years, then worked as Lead Saw Man for Marlette Manufactured Homes and in the Maintenance Department of Cherry Village Long Term Care, all of Great Bend, Kansas. He enjoyed building furniture, hunting and fishing, and gardening – especially raising peanuts.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Carson of Great Bend, Kansas; three sons: Benny H. Carson of Great Bend, Kansas, Dennis D. Carson of Norman, Arkansas, and Gordon L. (& Kathy) Carson of Great Bend, Kansas; two daughters: Rhonda Y. Herren and Lori J. (& Mike) Felsburg, both of Great Bend, Kansas; 14 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; one half-brother James (& Sue) Ketchum of Mustang, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; two half-sisters Pearl and Annie Carson, four half-brothers: Raymond Smith, Georgie Smith, Jimmy Ketchum, and Benjamin Carson; one daughter-in-law, Elizabeth “Beth” Carson.

According to his wishes, cremation has been chosen and there will be a Celebration of Life Service held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Johnny H. Carson Funeral Expense Fund with Charter Funerals of Great Bend, Kansas in charge.
