SALINA — Jose Diaz Martinez, 84, passed away Sept. 30. He was born on July 30, 1930, in Throckmorton, Texas. He owned and operated A-1 Body Shop as an auto body mechanic for 17 years.
Survivors include his devoted and loving wife of 62 years, Eufemia “Helen” Martinez; one daughter, Elodie Herrera of Kansas City; one son, Gerald “Jerry” (Carol) Martinez of Wichita; three brothers Dario Martinez of Garden City, Henry (Deloris) Martinez of Salina, and Leon (Lucia) Martinez of Lakin; a half-brother, Margarito (Yasmin) Martinez of San Antonio, Texas; five sisters, Sofia (Frank) Martinez of Salina, Felipa Mareno, and Frances Alvarez both of Stamford, Texas, Juana Gonzales of Plano, Texas, and Connie Estorga of Watauga, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Refugio and Angela (Diaz) Martinez; son, Ernie Martinez; daughter, Patricia Espinosa; granddaughter, Elody T. “Chacha Bear” Herrera; sister, Mary Martinez; and brother Manual Martinez.
A Celebration of Jose’s Life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 118 N. Ninth St. in Salina. Private inurnment will be at a later date in Roselawn Memorial Park in Salina. Memorials may be made to Home Sweet Home and/or Progressive Home Health Care and Hospice in care of the funeral home.
