Joyce Ann Weis 1935 - 2022

Joyce Ann Weis, 87, passed away March 15, 2022, at Medicalodges of Great Bend. She was born on January 1, 1935, in Decatur County, Kan., to Peter and Bertha (Woerpel) Pope. She married Wilbur “Dean” Weis July 14, 1953 at Colby, Kan.  

A longtime Great Bend resident, Joyce was a daycare provider and a cook at KFC in Great Bend. She had previously lived in Perryton, Texas, and in Ulysses where she worked for a water well service and liquor store. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altar Society and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Joyce was an avid collector of beanie babies and bells. She especially loved to spend time with her family and play cards.  

Survivors include, her husband, Dean Weis of the home; three sons, Michael Weis and wife Karen of San Antonio, Texas, Timothy Weis and wife Diane of Fontana and Jeff Weis and wife Michele of Edmond, Oklahoma; three daughters, Jennifer Reynolds and husband Robert of Guymon, Oklahoma, Debbie Wood and husband Russell of Spearville and Nikki Zamarripa and husband Paul of Great Bend; twenty grandchildren; and twenty five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Robert Pope, Rueben Pope and Rollie Pope; her sisters, Phyllis Hensley, Phylia Brantley, Betty Wallace and infant sister Madona Lea Pope; a grandson, Casey Weis; and a great grandson, Easton Weis. 

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., and a Vigil service held at 7:00 p.m. The family asks that you wear blue jeans and KU attire for the Vigil service. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 21, 2022, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu presiding. Inurnment will be at the Seldon Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been designated to Kindred Hospice, Prince of Peace Parish or for Masses, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
