LAKIN — Kara A. McVey, 71, died Friday, June 8, 2018 at the Rust Presbyterian Hospital in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She was born Dec. 8, 1946 in Great Bend, Kan., the daughter of Floyd David and Zelma Mae (Smith) Petersilie.
Born in Great Bend, Kan., Kara later graduated from Bazine High School in 1964. She later moved to Lakin, Kan. where she lived most of her life. She moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in January 2017 from Garden City. Kara was a self-employed day care provider and foster parent. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, thrift shopping, garage sales, and she especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On March 29, 1964, she married Harold “Tim” McVey in Bazine, Kan. He died on Jan. 31, 1997. Kara is also preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter Carol Diane McVey.
Survivors include a son Stone and wife Stacey McVey of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two daughters Shanna and husband J.R. Guinn of Garden City and Emili McVey of Garden City; two brothers David Petersilie of Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Dale and wife Brenda Petersilie of Great Bend, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Lakin Cemetery in Lakin, Kan. with Rev. Rita Stockton officiating. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin. Condolences may be given at garnandfuneralhomes.com.
