ELLINWOOD — Katherine “Kate” Feist, 92, passed away at Ellinwood District Hospital on May 18, 2024. Born Aug. 20th, 1931 in rural Ellinwood, Kan., Kate was the daughter of Peter Paul and Anna (Straub) Kimpler. She graduated from Claflin High School. Kate later married Frederick W. Feist on Nov. 11th, 1952 at Sts. Peter & Paul Church north of Ellinwood. A lifetime Barton Co. resident she was an excellent cook and seamstress. Kate made much of her families clothing, gardened and canned much of their food in addition to being a mother to seven children. Memberships include St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar society, Ellinwood. She loved holidays, get togethers’ with family, and card games with friends.
Survivors include children Pete Feist, Raymore, Mo., Greg (Sharon) Feist, Great Bend, Kan., Phil (Donna) Feist, Gardner, Kan., Joanie (Douglas) Panning, Ellinwood, Kan., Donna Mason, Ellinwood, Kan., Karen (Wayne) Habiger, Bushton, Kan., Nancy (Craig) Schartz, Erie, Colo.; sisters, Bernetta Oberle and Mary Bate; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, and 14 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Frederick Feist; siblings, Victor and Roman, Esther and Florentine Oberle and half siblings Raymond and Helen Schultz; son-in law, Dan Mason; and daughter-in-law, Jane Feist.
Funeral Mass will take place 10 a.m., Wed., May 22nd at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Terrance Klein officiating. Interment will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood. Visitation will take place Tuesday, May 21st 1-5 p.m. with 3 p.m. Altar Society Rosary at Minnis Chapel in Ellinwood, Kan. Vigil Service will take place Tuesday 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood.
