TOPEKA — Kathleen Faye Van Dam, 71, of Topeka, passed away Nov. 4th, 2021. Kathy was born Nov. 12, 1949 in Great Bend, Kan. the daughter of Jo Ann (Campbell) and Galen Broadbooks. She was the oldest of four (Dennis Broadbooks, Teri Zink, and Gail Barnard). Following high school graduation in 1967 she completed X-Ray training at Central Kansas Medical Center and went on to be an X-Ray Technician for 40 years at Stormont Vail Hospital.
She married Richard R. May Jr. in 1969 who was in the Air Force moving them to Abilene, Texas, Okinawa, Japan, and finally Topeka, Kan., where they settled and had two children.
Kathy later married Michael Van Dam on April 24th, 1993 and was happily married for 28 years until her death. After retirement Kathy was very active with the Spirit Mind Body Fair, the AACA & Flinthills Car Clubs, volunteering at Findables, and enjoyed playing Bunko with friends.
Kathy is survived by her husband Michael; son Jason May of Los Angeles, Calif., his wife Rosie and daughter Meadow; daughter Julie May Austin of Fort Worth, Texas and her husband Dontrell and daughter Ava.
