DALLAS, Texas — Kathryn Ann VanWinkle went to her Savior in the early hours of Jan. 2. She will be greatly missed.
Kathryn was born in Great Bend on Aug., 20, 1939, daughter to Mary and Joseph Riedel. She was an only child. She attended Great Bend High School and later radiologic technology school in Great Bend. She obtained additional training in Cobalt Therapy, ultimately specializing in Mammography. Kathryn resided in Dallas for 21 years. She was employed by THR, working in the Mammography Department of Perot Breast Center for many years.
Kathryn, known to her family and friends as “G-Ma,” could be described as a unique and extraordinary woman. She had a tremendous work ethic, as she did diligently until three months prior to her death. She loved Yanni, the Florida beaches, creating mysterious desserts, crime TV, and all things cat. Although devoutly Christian, she displayed a keen interest in other faiths and embraced diversity.
Kathryn was a long time member of Hillcrest Church and was attending Watermark Community Church at the time of her death.
Survivors include her three children, daughter Jamie VanWinkle Isbell and her husband Dr. Gerald Isbell, sons Brad VanWinkle, and Todd VanWinkle and his wife Angela. She was blessed with four amazing grandchildren and one great granddaughter, Amy, Luisa, Faith, Gabe and Gracie. She is also survived by her first husband James VanWinkle, his wife Karolyn VanWinkle, many cousins and dear friends.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that contributions in memory of Kathryn be directed to Teen Challenge International Four States, P.O. Box 1084, Neosho, Mo. 64850-4084. A memorial gathering was held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 12.
