NORMAN, Okla. — Kathryn “Kathy” Louise Appl, age 57, of Norman, Okla. passed away suddenly on Thursday, March 16, 2023 in Oklahoma City.

Kathy was born in Norman, Okla. to Franklin J. and Velma C. (Finkenbinder) Appl. She attended Pauls Valley State School, graduating in 1983. She went on to live at the Pauls Valley State School for 30 years, where she had several jobs through the workshop program over the years. She loved working in the green house doing gardening and working with the plants. When the physical work of gardening became difficult for her, Kathy worked in the bakery, where she assisted with making healthy dog treats. When Pauls Valley State School (a.k.a. SORC) closed, Kathy moved to Shawnee, Okla. where she worked in a workshop bakery then moved to assisting with the daily office activities of her care provider.

Kathy enjoyed singing at church on Sunday, dancing to country music, and making bead bracelets for everyone; she loved to watch Scooby Doo, Brady Bunch, Paw Patrol, and My Little Pony. Kathy was an enthusiastic player of Go Fish, Bingo, Dominoes, and loved working jigsaw puzzles. She always looked forward to Sunday visits with her family, enjoy lunch, painting her nails, fixing her hair, and wearing lots of necklaces, bracelets, and rings. Kathy loved reading and being read to, and was very proud of her notebooks where she would write lists of gifts she wanted to give to her friends and family.

Kathy  was the friendliest person, she didn’t know a stranger. Everyone was her best friend. She loved her family and her care takers dearly. She will be deeply missed by all of those she leaves behind.

Left to cherish her precious memory are her parents Franklin and Velma Appl; her sisters, Patricia Appl and Virginia Appl and her husband Keith Meurer; her niece Lya Trammell; her great-niece Anabel Trammell; her dear 2nd cousin Kent Gates, who faithfully called her every day; and many other beloved family, friends, and loving caretakers.
