COLDWATER — Kay Ellen Shaffner, 80, passed away on June 24 at Western Plains Regional Medical Center in Dodge City. She was born on April 21, 1934, in Russell, to Gordon Shaffner and Ruth (Griffith) Shaffner. Kay was a resident of Pioneer Lodge in Coldwater. She began living in Pioneer Lodge in 1971. She was a part of Pioneer Lodges family for over 40 years.
Kay was a writer and often wrote love stories and short stories about the people around her. She also enjoyed reading romance novels. She enjoyed the holidays and parties at Pioneer Lodge, and the children that would come in for these special events. She was a woman of few words but always got her point across. She touched the hearts of all who knew her. She was such a part of so many other lives her loss will be a void in them. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Ray Shaffner.
A graveside service is planned at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 30, at Lakin-Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood with Pastor Gene Langhofer presiding. Memorials are suggested to Pioneer Lodge Activity Fund in care of the funeral home.
