Kenneth L. Schneweis

DODGE CITY — Kenneth L. Schneweis, 82, passed away on May 21, 2023 at home in at home in South Jordan, Utah.

He was born May 3, 1941 at Dodge City, Kan., to Katherine Boor and Albert Schneweis. He married Irene Montoya on Oct. 18, 1986 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in West Valley City, Utah. Ken graduated from Saint Mary of the Plains High School in Dodge City, Kan.

He quickly earned the admiration and respect of his future in-laws, and they readily agreed to allow him to take Irene’s hand in marriage. He worked for three different airlines: Braniff, Western, and Delta where he retired in June 2000.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception in Copperton, Utah and then became a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church.

From childhood Ken loved tractors. His hobbies were restoring tractors and buying Corvettes. He enjoyed the farm life and returned to help his brother and nephews do the fall harvest for many years after he retired. Ken was a hard worker and he took pride in keeping his home and yard looking immaculate. He was friendly to all and always willing to lend a helping hand to others. He will be missed by all his family and friends.

Ken is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years Irene; son Michael (Jan), daughter Margaret (Mel) and grandson Ian; brothers Bob, Dave and Mike; sisters Kathleen, Donna and Karla. Also survived by stepchildren Chuck Torres (Pauline), Phyllis Hilleman (Kurt), Kenny Torres (Susan), four grandchildre;n and five great grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents; siblings Gerald, Vernon, Elaine, Carol Ann, Joann; and in-laws Erma, Mary Lee, Leroy, David, and Frank.

We would like to thank Dr Afaf Osman and staff along with Huntsman At Home Hospice Care, specifically Trisha and Lola.

The family would also like to express extreme gratitude to Ralph and Mary Jo Dabling for being indispensable during Ken’s last days.

Rosary will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2023 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church with Fr. Wesley Schawe presiding. The Mass can be viewed on the church Facebook page. Burial will follow in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City. Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.
