Kent E. Newport,  57, died Oct. 27 at  Kansas Medical Center, Andover. He was born June 24, 1957 at Garden City, the son of John and Louise (Long) Newport. He married Karla K. Ehrlich Oct. 17, 1998 at Larned.  He graduated from Garden City High School and attended both Garden City and Barton County Community Colleges.
He was a law enforcement officer for 40 years working for the last 20 years as a Kansas State Trooper.
Mr. Newport was a Great Bend resident. He was a member of Kansas State Troopers Association
Survivors include wife:  Karla K. Newport of the home; father: John Newport and wife Betty; mother: Louise Long of Garden City; three daughters: Holly Cedillo of Rozel; Andi Newport of Rozel; and Erica Brown of Larned; one sister: Kathy Speers of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother: Jimmy Dunsworth of Garden City; six grandchildren: Felicity Cedillo, Mattieu Cedillo, Aiden Gales, Mario Cedillo, Lylee Brown, and Shay Brown; and mother-in-law: Lila Ehrlich.
The funeral service is  2 p.m. Friday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Hoisington. Interment: Hoisington Cemetery, Hoisington. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
