Larry Dean Michaelis died Oct. 27, 2016, at Heritage Plaza Nursing Home, Texarkana, Texas. He was born Dec. 23, 1944, at Russell to Leo and Alma (Waymaster) Michaelis.
Mr. Michaelis was a Texarkana, Arkansas, resident since 1971, coming from Russell. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, a member of the First Lutheran Church, Texarkana, Texas, a United States Air Force veteran, serving during the Vietnam era, and a member of Russell Lodge No. 177 AF & AM Masonic Lodge, Russell.
Survivors include two sons, Rusty Michaelis and his wife Carolyn of Texarkana, Texas, and Ricky Michaelis and his wife Sarah of Genoa, Ark.; one sister, Shirley Brown and her husband Bill of Ulysses; three brothers, Gerald Michaelis and his wife Betty of Galatia, Roger Michaelis and his wife Reatha of Great Bend, and Gene Michaelis and his wife Regina of Olathe; and five grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at Michaelis Cemetery in Russell County, with the Rev. Jim Brown. Military and Masonic rites will be conducted. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Sunday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Memorials shall be directed to Michaelis Cemetery Fund, in care of the funeral home.
