Larry Gene Mitchell 1962 - 2023

PRATT — Larry Gene Mitchell, 61, passed away surrounded by friends and family Thursday, March 16, 2023 after being diagnosed with stage four Pancreatic Cancer in January. As many people in Pratt know, Larry was the best husband, neighbor, dad, and friend. Larry had the best personality and biggest sense of humor. He loved making people laugh and telling funny stories.

Larry was born on Feb. 21, 1962 in Great Bend, Kan., to George and Ruby (Nuss) Mitchell. Larry married Jeri (Dreiling) Mitchell on Nov. 14, 1981 in Great Bend. They shared 41 wonderful years of travels, laughs, companionship, and so much love. Larry graduated from Great Bend High School in 1980. He spent the majority of his working years in the oilfield as a well-respected contract pumper. After 30 years in the oilfield, Larry was fortunate enough to retire in 2010 and check so many things off his Bucket List: walking the Great Wall of China, feeding elephants on an African Safari, riding across the Sahara Desert on a camel, eating a kangaroo pie in Australia, riding his motorcycle to Nova Scotia, zip lining over a pit of crocodiles in Mexico, watching grizzly bears catch wild salmon in Alaska, touring Red Square and St. Basil’s Cathedral in Russia, and trekking across the United States on his beloved motorcycles with his best friends. His most recent adventure was exploring castles in Ireland to help plan his oldest daughter, Lindsey’s wedding this upcoming June.

He is survived by his wife, Jeri; daughters, Lindsey (fiance Ryan O’Grady) Mitchell and Haley Mitchell both of Kansas City, Miss; and brothers, Lee (Vicky) Mitchell of Harker Heights, Texas and Dale (Yvonne) Mitchell of Omaha, Neb. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ron Mitchell.

Per Larry’s wishes, Cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Instead, we invite you to reminisce on the good times and share your favorite memories of Larry at
