ELLINWOOD — LaVon Charlotte (Soeken) Sessler, 94, died May 22 at the Ellinwood District Hospital. Born June 13, 1918, at Great Bend, she was the daughter of Otto G. and Lydia S. Frerichs Soeken. On Jan. 21, 1940, she married Charles W. Sessler in Ellinwood. He died on June 25, 2002. A lifetime resident of Ellinwood, she was a farm wife.
Mrs. Sessler was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and LWML, and was a Sunday School and Bible Class teacher. She was a member of the Sunshine club, serving as an officer, and was selected as Kansas Queen of the Flying Farmers organization.
Survivors include a son, Marvin (Karen) Sessler, of Ellinwood; a daughter, Rosalyn Borchers of Ellinwood; son-in-law, Michael (Susie) Brauer, of Littleton, Colo.; a sister, Mary Louise McCarty (Robert), of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Jolene Brauer; a brother, Norman Soeken; and two sisters, Verna Heitschmidt and Wilma Palmer.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ellinwood with Pastor Jeff Frakes officiating. Burial will be at the Lakin Comanche District Cemetery in Ellinwood. Friends may visit from 1-8 p.m., with family receiving friends from 7-8 p.m., Friday at Kimple Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Children’s Christian Concern Society.
