Lawrence Stanley Schneider, 89, died Sept. 2, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Jan. 28, 1925, in Barton County, he was the son of Louis John William and Agnes Pauline (Page) Schneider. On Aug. 11, 1945, he married Daisy Pauline McDonald in Couer d’Alene, Idaho. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a farmer and stockman.
Mr. Schneider was a United States Marine Corps veteran, serving during World War II in Iwo Jima. He was a member of American Legion Argonne Post 180, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3111, and was a life member of Barton County Historical Society, where he was active in restoring tractors and creating various artwork and other projects through the years.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Schneider, of the home; two sons, Larry W. “Butch” Schneider and wife Marcia and Todd Schneider and wife Kim, all of Great Bend; two daughters, Pamela Maresch and husband Myron of Ozona, Texas, and Sally Davis and husband Matthew of Early, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Douglas Schneider, David Schneider, Curtis Mai, Jason Mai, Nathan Mai, Tamara Jo Dominguez, Stanley Maresch, Sarah (Davis) Ethridge, Lindyn Davis, Brandi Schneider, and Heather Schneider; 15 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Darrell Schneider and David Schneider; and one sister, Margaret Miller.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Great Bend Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Scott V. Solether officiating and military rites by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with family present from 6 to 8 p.m., on Thursday at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Barton County Historical Society or Great Bend Public Library, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
