HOUSTON, Texas — Leathel Bohannon, 92, died Aug. 29, 2011 in Houston, Texas.
She was born March 17, 1919 in Mountain View, Ark., the daughter of Hiram Mitchell and Mary (Shannon) Price. A resident of Great Bend since 2004, moving from Hoisington, where she had lived since 1946. Before her retirement, she was a nurse’s aide at the Hoisington Hospital for 14 years. During World War II, she worked in a shipyard in Richmond, Calif. On Oct. 19, 1936 she married Virgil Bohannon in Beardon, Okla. He preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 2006.
Mrs. Bohannon was a member of the Church of Christ in Great Bend. She loved camping and fishing with her late husband, and loved flowers.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald Bohannon and wife Georgina, Houston, Texas; and Lloyd Bohannon, Newhall, Calif.; two daughters, Lois Kean and husband Richard, Littleton, Colo., and Reta Lucas and husband Kevin, Great Bend; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hiram Mitchell and Mary (Shannon) Price; her husband, Virgil Bohannon; three brothers, Eulis Price, Walter Price and Fred Price; an infant brother, Merlis Price; and a sister, Ethel Brittain.
Funeral services are scheduled at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Church of Christ in Great Bend with Chuck Marshall officiating. Burial will be at the Hoisington Cemetery. Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Charter Funerals, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. and from 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. on Saturday at the Church of Christ in Great Bend.
Memorials are suggested to the Church of Christ in Great Bend.
