Leland Wegele 1932 - 2021

Leland Wegele, 89, passed away on Dec. 23, 2021, at his home in Otis, Kan. He was born on Jan. 3, 1932 to Jacob and Pauline (Bitter) Wegele. He married Joyce Karst on Oct. 23, 1955 in Milberger, Kan. She survives.

A lifetime resident of Otis and a “jack-of-all-trades”, Leland was a farmer, welder, and carpenter. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend and the Great Bend Woodcarvers Club. Leland especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by a son, Richard (Myia) Wegele of Pleasant View, Ariz.; daughter Paula (Steve) Storm and Leann Wegele, all of Albert, Kan.; grandchildren Michael (Michele) Gowans, Morgan Wegele, Jackson Linenberg, Sam (Tara) Storm, and Kelly (Derrick) Heuer; and many great-grandkids. He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Albert, Ernest, and Paul.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, from noon to 8 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 6-7 p.m. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home with Chaplain Jeffrey Owen presiding. Internment will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Galatia, Kan., with Military Rites conducted by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.  Memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Galatia, or Kindred Hospice, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
