Leona McIntosh 1935-2020

GREAT BEND - Leona McIntosh, 84, passed away January 22, 2020, at her home in Great Bend. She was born on June 28, 1935, at Cordia, Kan., to Alex A. and Christina (Enslinger) Leiker. She married Charles "Oscar" McIntosh on October 19, 1953, at Liebenthal. He survives.

 Coming from Hays in 1976, Leona was a Great Bend resident, and had been employed as a ward secretary/unit clerk for Hadley Hospital, Hays, CKMC, Great Bend, and Larned Hospital, Larned.  Her devout dedication to the Catholic Church was demonstrated through her membership at Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society, and Daughters of Isabella.  Leona served her community as a 4-H leader, Boy Scout troop leader and volunteer at Birthright and Right to Life. She liked to garden, was a seamstress, liked crocheting and was the best German cook ever.  Leona was the most loving mom, grandmother and friend, always putting others first, marveling all with her unwavering selflessness.

Survivors include, her husband, Charles "Oscar" McIntosh; six children, Geralyn Engelken of Wichita, Marilyn Reifschneider and husband Jon of Arlington, Charles "Chuck" McIntosh and wife Chela of Great Bend, Tamra Romine and husband Kevin of Great Bend, Timothy McIntosh and wife Loretta of Great Bend, and Craig McIntosh of Wichita; five brothers, Peter Leiker and wife Roberta of Wichita, Alex Leiker and wife Marilyn of Hays, Linus Leiker of Baldwin City, Christian “Chris” Leiker and wife Rosalie “Rose” of Great Bend and Anthony Leiker of Lubbock, Texas; a sister, Jane Dreiling and husband Hubert of Kansas City, Mo.; a sister in-law, Jan Leiker of Wichita; 9 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Merwyn Leiker; a sister, Anita (Leiker) Engel and husband Darrel; two sister in laws, Gwen Leiker and Jeannette Leiker; and one grandson, Joseph Gunn.

 Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Altar Society Rosary at 4 p.m. and Vigil service with Daughters of Isabella Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 27, 2020, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 4100 Broadway, Great Bend. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery.
