LARNED — Leona Ruth Hockett, 88, passed away Dec. 6, 2022 at Diversicare of Larned.
She was born Sept. 19, 1934 in rural Burdett, the daughter of William Carl and Sarah Christina Schwindt Sucht.
A lifetime area resident, she was of the protestant faith. She was the assistant manager and then later the manager at T.M. Deal Lumber for 30 plus years, and a member of the Fort Larned Lions Club. Her hobbies included: cake decorating, painting, upholstery, and cooking.
On June 20, 1954 she married Wendell D. Griffin; they later divorced and he preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 2018.
On Aug. 8, 1992 she married Lee Hockett at Longford, Kan.; he preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 2017.
Survivors include daughter, Brenda (Brian) Reed, Larned; three sons, David (Teresa) Griffin Sr., Larned, Bruce (Elizabeth) Griffin, Larned, Byron Griffin, Larned; brother, Carl Sucht, Dodge City; seven grandchildren, David (Ginny) Griffin Jr., Heather (Cody) Folmer, Jessica Woods, Devin (Kristin) Reed, Kyle (Jessica) Reed, Carly Reed-Leiker, Bill (Sarah) Griffin; 20 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Don Sucht.
Cremation has taken place and Celebration of Life will be held in the spring. Memorials may be given to Pawnee County Humane Society or the Welcome Inn Senior Center in care of Beckwith Mortuary, PO Box 477, Larned, Kansas 67550. Personal condolences may be left at www.beckwithmortuary.com
