Leonard D. Sharp, 89, died Jan. 18 at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. Born Sept. 2, 1922 in Great Bend, he was the son of Howard D. and Fannie H. (Rohrbacher) Sharp. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1941. On March 13, 1948 he married Virginia Lenora Lonnon in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, he was a farmer and operated a poultry business and a swine confinement operation. He was also a Hutchinson News motor carrier.
Mr. Sharp was a member of the Central Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher, officer, and deacon. He was active in Barton County Farm Bureau, and was a community 4-H leader.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Lenora Sharp of the home; a daughter, Lenora Bruckdorfer and her husband Rod, of Baltimore, Md.; three sons, James Sharp and his wife Judi of Derby, Charles Sharp and his wife Kathie of Great Bend, and John Sharp and his wife Polly of Peoria, Ill.; five grandchildren, Michelle Warren, Jennifer Findley, Jeremy Sharp, Maeve Sahni, Lonnon Sharp; and three great-grandchildren, Dylan Warren, Zachary Findley, Reed Warren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Sharp; three sisters, Deborah Hobble, Eunice Sherwood, and Laura Philips; and a grandson, Adam Sharp.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the Central Baptist Church in Great Bend with the Rev. Dr. Joan Harrington, the Rev. Kathie Sharp, and the Rev. John Grummon officiating. Burial will be at the Golden Belt Memorial Park in Great Bend. Friends may visit from noon to 9 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Monday at the funeral home.
