Lila J. (Schamaun) Bowman

Lila J. (Schamaun) Bowman, 91, passed away June 20, 2021, at Medicalodges of Great Bend. She was born Jan. 4, 1930, at Rush Center, to Albert and Pauline (Maier) Brack. She married Donald D. Schamaun Dec. 11, 1949, at Bazine and they later divorced. 

Coming from Bazine in 1959, Lila was a Great Bend resident. She was a cosmetologist and then worked as a switchboard operator for CKMC and part time as a food demonstrator. Lila enjoyed baking. Her caramel rolls and cookies were unmatched, but she was most fondly known as the “bierock lady.” She especially loved spending time with her family.  

Survivors include, a son, Michael Schamaun (Vicki) of New Braunfels, Texas; three daughters, Diana Roberts (Ken), and Lana Dietz (Delane), all of Great Bend, and Julie Bryant of Sun City, Ariz.; a brother, Dean Brack of Weeping Water, Neb.; a sister, Jeanette Foos and husband Franklin of Bazine; a sister in law, Esther Brack of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren, Nicole Soukup, Natalie Gilmer (Sam), Ashley Campbell (Michael), Shane Schamaun (Desi), Brittany Magin (Ian), and Michael Dietz; 11 great grandchildren, and another great grandson and great great granddaughter due in November; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Orval Brack and Dale Brack; a sister and brother in law, Norma and Fred Erb; grandson, T.J. Dietz; and two great grandsons, Kellan Soukup and Gabriel Campbell.

Per Lila’s wishes, there will be no ceremony as cremation has taken place. Memorials have been designated to Kans for Kids or Kindred Hospice, in care of Bryant Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent and notice viewed at www.bryantfh.net.
