Linus H. Schmeidler 1926 - 2013

HAYS — Linus H. Schmeidler, 87, died Aug. 4, at the Hays Medical Center. Born on July 8, 1926 on the family farm at Severin, he was the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Windholz) Schmeidler. In 1944 he graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy. On Sept. 14, 1957, he married LuVerna K. Stroemel at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Walker. He worked at Travenol in Hays and was also a floor covering installer for Vitzum’s Incorporated for many years.  
Mr. Schmeidler served in the United States Army as a chaplain during the Korean War. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel, Legend of Mary, Minister of Praise, life member of the Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #1325, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9076, and a life member of the Hays American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Lu Verna Schmeidler, of the home; two brothers, Alfred and Theresa Schmeidler of Great Bend, and Kenny and Betty Schmeidler of Hays; a sister Helen Schulte of Russell; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by brothers, Norbert, Marcellus, Martin, James, and Wendelin Schmeidler; and sisters, Evelyn Rupp, Mary Karlin, and Edna Karlin.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. Burial with military honors by the Hays VFW and American Legion will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. today and from 9 until 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A perpetual adorers service will be held at 5 p.m., a Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 5:30 p.m., a parish vigil will be at 6 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 6:30 p.m., all on today at the funeral home.  The family suggests memorials in memory of Linus to TMP-Marian High School or to masses, in care of the funeral home.
