TOPEKA — Lois Steadman Hazard, 83, Topeka, passed away Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Brookdale Senior Living. Born Feb. 19, 1933, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Frank and Marie Steadman.
She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1951 and then Kansas State University in 1955, with a bachelor’s degree in education and with a major in home economics. Lois was a lifelong member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority. She taught briefly in the Topeka school system before marrying Stuart G. Hazard Jr. on June 10, 1956.
Together, Lois and her husband, Stuart G. Hazard Jr. owned and operated the Topeka Veterinary Hospital at 5800 SW 21st Street in Topeka until their retirement in 1998.
Lois was very active in numerous Topeka area bridge clubs throughout her life. In later years, she and her husband enjoyed traveling. Lois was a very proud KSU sports fan and continued to follow KSU sports with her son, Stuart, right up until her death.
Lois’ greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, and later, her great-granddaughter, Stella. Lois was a dedicated wife, a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
Survivors include her two sons, Stuart G. Hazard III and Todd E. Hazard (Katherine); two grandsons, Aron Hazard and Alex Hazard; great-granddaughter, Stella Gordon, all of Wakarusa, and her brother, Bill Steadman, of Great Bend. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Jack and Hugh Steadman, and her husband, Stuart G. Hazard Jr., in 2001.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13 at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614.
